The Lakeshore Lightning started in the fall of 2014, when a group of former university and junior players from south Etobicoke booked one late-night ice slot a week and called it a team. Within two seasons the club had joined the Toronto Women's Senior Hockey League, and by 2018 it was running three full lines, a two-goalie rotation and a waiting list. The Lightning finished as league runners-up in 2022 and 2023 before breaking through in 2024, beating the regular-season leaders in a three-game final to win the club's first league championship. In 2025 the team reached the provincial semifinals for the first time, falling in overtime. Today the roster has 20 players, from recent university graduates to working parents. Sponsorship keeps registration fees low, pays for ice time and travel to provincials, and makes sure cost is never the reason a player stops playing.
A 3-2 overtime win on home ice sealed first place in the standings. Every line chipped in this season, and the whole bench was on the ice when the puck went in. Thank you to our families, volunteers and local sponsors for getting us here.
Our players spent the morning on the ice with 40 young skaters from the junior program, running drills, tying skates and finishing with a mini scrimmage. Growing the women's game starts right here.
